At around 4 AM on 18 March 2026, a family in Indore’s Brijeshwari Annexe could not open their own  doors. An EV charging point had exploded outside their home, the fire had reached more than a  dozen stored LPG cylinders, and when the power failed, their electronic lock jammed. Eight people  from one family died — including a pregnant woman and a child.  The fire started the tragedy. An electronic lock that was never certified to open in one finished it.  This is the part of fire safety India keeps skipping. We specify fire-rated doors, install alarms, mount  extinguishers — and then hang an uncertified lock on the one door that is supposed to save a life.  Under India’s National Building Code (NBC) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) provisions, a fire  door is only compliant as a complete rated assembly. The moment you fit an untested lock, the rating  on the door beside it is meaningless. The assembly is broken, the compliance is gone, and the escape ...
